Welcome
to irishdancegold.com, home of the Katie Cox School of Irish Dance! Formed in 2010 and based in Alabama, the Katie Cox School
of Irish Dance brings together dancers of all ages, from new beginner to champion, to learn traditional and modern Irish dancing,
discover Irish history, sample the Irish arts, and take advantage of opportunities to perform and compete. Irish dancing is
a fun and exciting way to learn about Irish history and culture, cultivate creativity and teamwork skills, and develop dancing
skills and fitness.
Irish dancing has been consistently growing
in popularity in North America for many years now due to the tremendous success of shows such as Riverdance and Lord of the
Dance. It is a beautiful art form, hundreds of years strong, with its tradition well-preserved and still being passed down
from generation to generation all over the world.
The school is taught by Katie Cox, T.M.R.F.,
T.C.R.G. These designations represent Katie's full accreditation through An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha in Dublin, Ireland
to teach all forms of Irish dancing having passed examinations in 2008.
Dancers in our school learn traditional Irish dancing, modern choreographies, and team dancing.
Our students have many opportunities to perform and compete, as well as participate in various social events and school activities.
We also encourage an interest in Irish music, language, history, traditon, and the arts and regularly provide the dancers
with opportunities to learn more about these aspects of Irish culture.
The school's
goal is to pass on and preserve traditional Irish dancing through a positive and fun learning environment, training each individual
dancer to their full potential while providing opportunities for learning and success. Besides being great fun, Irish dancing
can be recreational, competitive, performance-centered, or all of the above! Each dancer with our school chooses their own
focus and level of involvement. We want every dancer to get the most out of their Irish dancing experience with our school!
